These terms cover your use of arhivaumetnica.org, run by Arhiva Balkanskih Umetnica (ABU). By browsing the site, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

Using this site

ABU is a digital archive dedicated to documentation and education. As a visitor, you're free to browse and search the content, and you may reference individual records for personal, educational, or research purposes. Please don't use the site in a way that disrupts it or attempts to access it through means other than the interface we provide.

ABU's own content

Text, research, biographies, and the structure and compilation of this archive are ABU's own work and are © ABU unless otherwise noted. Please contact us before republishing our written content elsewhere. This is separate from the copyright relating to the individual works of the artists included in the database.

Database rights

The compilation, structure, verification, and presentation of information within Arhiva Balkanskih Umetnica's (ABU's) database is protected as the maker's own work under Serbian law (Zakon o autorskom i srodnim pravima, Arts. 137–147) and the EU Database Directive 96/9/EC (sui generis database right). This protection lasts 15 years from completion of the database, renewed with each substantial new investment in its contents.

This protects ABU's original compilation and metadata against extraction or re-utilization of a substantial part of the database's contents. It does NOT grant ABU any rights over the underlying artworks or images themselves.

This right does not restrict normal, good-faith use of the site by visitors, such as browsing, searching, and referencing individual records. It is intended to prevent large-scale copying or re-publishing of ABU's compiled database as a whole (or a substantial part of it) without permission.

Accuracy of information

ABU is an ongoing research project, run and maintained by a small team. Content is preceded by detailed research, but records — including rights status determinations — may be incomplete, outdated, or contain errors. Rights status labels reflect our best current research, not a legal determination; if you plan to rely on one, verify independently or contact us. Content is provided "as is," without warranty of completeness or accuracy.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the archive and its database grow. The current version will always be posted on this page.

Governing law & contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Serbia, where ABU is based. Questions about these terms can be sent to arhiva.umetnica@proton.me.
